This holiday home is located in Ravna Gora in Gorski Kotar region. Intact nature, sloping terrain and numerous evergreen trees were fundamental aspects that influenced the final design of the house. Our goal was to preserve as many natural features of the site as possible, while still utilizing beautiful and attractive views all around.
The main house consists of four cubical segments. They are shifted in two directions, while outdoor spaces are created between them. Such indented plan resulted in hardly any interruptions of the existing terrain and only a few trees taken down. The house has gable roofs, reminiscent of local architecture in Gorski Kotar. Roof cladding is made of corrugated steel which wraps over fronts of the house, creating a continuous strip in one direction. By contrast, sides of the house are cladded with wooden planks and thus accentuate relation to its surroundings, as well as paying an homage to traditional building methods.
There are three floors in the house. Basement contains a one-car garage and two storage rooms. Living rooms are located on the ground floor, with large openings framing lush surroundings. Ground floor also has access to two outdoor terraces, enabling residents to spend as much time in nature as possible throughout the whole day. Sleeping rooms are located on the top floor, next to a wellness section with sauna, shower and a jacuzzi. Behind the main house, there is a smaller one, mainly used for gatherings.
This house truly outlines a symbiotic relationship between architecture and nature, as it is partially dug into the hillside, made with natural and traditional materials and the building process is non-destructive to the site itself. Simultaneously, its design and numerous attractive features enable its residents to thoroughly enjoy natural beauty of Gorski Kotar all year round.
